This camera looks out over Wasaga Beach, the long ribbon of sand that curves along Nottawasaga Bay at the southern end of Georgian Bay in Ontario. Widely described as the longest freshwater beach in the world, it is a shallow, gently shelving shore where the water reads pale turquoise on bright days and slate grey when weather rolls in off the bay.

Why Wasaga? Freshwater beaches rarely look this oceanic. There is no far shore in much of the view, just water meeting sky, and the light shifts constantly across the sand. In summer the shoreline fills with swimmers, volleyball and paddlers. Out of season it empties into something quieter, with wind-shaped snow and ice ridges building along the waterline.
