This camera looks out over the St. Clair River at Port Huron, one of the busiest and most watched shipping channels on the Great Lakes. Freighters pass close to shore as they move between Lake Huron and Lake St. Clair, and the twin spans of the Blue Water Bridge frame the view upriver toward the lake.

Why Port Huron? Everything heading in or out of Lake Huron by way of the lower lakes squeezes through this narrow stretch of water, which means long lake freighters and ocean-going ships pass within easy view of the bank. The current runs fast and clear here, and the international border sits mid channel, with Sarnia, Ontario on the far side.

• Passing Freighters: Thousand-foot lake carriers and salties slide through the channel day and night, often close enough to read their names.
• Blue Water Bridge: The twin arch spans linking Michigan and Ontario dominate the upriver view and light up after dark.
• Seasonal River Moods: Watch summer pleasure boats and swimmers give way to ice floes and steam fog in the depths of winter.

Beyond the River: Port Huron sits where Lake Huron narrows into the river, with waterfront parks, a boardwalk and the historic Fort Gratiot lighthouse area to the north. Ship watchers gather along the banks in warm weather, and the Canadian city of Sarnia is visible directly across the water.
