Monterey Bay Aquarium
Monterey Bay Aquarium Live Cam Live Cam

This camera looks straight into the sea otter exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, home to a small group of rescued southern sea otters. They wrestle, roll, crack into toys and float on their backs for long naps, all a short distance from the kelp beds of Monterey Bay where their wild relatives live.

Why Monterey? Monterey Bay is one of the great wildlife corners of the Pacific coast, and the aquarium sits right on Cannery Row above the water. Southern sea otters nearly vanished from this coastline, so watching rescued animals thrive here carries real weight. The cam gives you a close, unhurried view that few visitors get to enjoy for long.

Monterey Bay Aquarium highlights: As you enjoy the live view, be sure to look out for:

  • Scheduled Feedings: Aquarists feed the otters at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Pacific time, often hiding food inside toys.
  • Training Sessions: Staff work with the otters on behaviours such as touching a target or stepping onto a scale, keeping them stimulated and relaxed.
  • Naps And Wrestling: Between meals the otters alternate between flat-out floating snoozes and rolling, paw-grabbing wrestling matches with each other.

Beyond the Exhibit: The aquarium anchors the end of Cannery Row, with Monterey's waterfront, working harbour and rocky shoreline just outside. Wild sea otters, harbour seals and sea lions are regular sights along the bay, and the kelp forest offshore supports the same ecosystem the exhibit animals come from.

Thanks to the Monterey Bay Aquarium for operating this camera and sharing its sea otter exhibit with viewers worldwide. Their rescue and research work with southern sea otters, and their willingness to stream it freely, lets people far from California watch these animals every day.

Tune in around a scheduled feeding, or drop by at any quiet hour to watch a rescued sea otter drift on its back without a care in the world.
