Coral City Camera
Coral City Camera Live Cam Live Cam

The Coral City Camera looks out on a slice of urban reef along the shoreline at the east end of PortMiami, sitting in roughly nine feet of water. Deployed in late 2019 by Coral Morphologic, it turns a working port into an open aquarium where corals, sponges and a steady parade of tropical fish go about their day in full view.

Why the Coral City Camera? Most reef cams point at remote, protected water. This one shows marine life thriving in the middle of a busy shipping channel, which is exactly what makes it fascinating. The water shifts with tide and weather, the cast of fish changes through the day, and the whole thing doubles as an art and citizen science project rather than a tourist attraction.

Coral City Camera highlights: As you enjoy the live view, be sure to look out for:

  • Reef Fish Traffic: Watch parrotfish, angelfish, snapper and grunts drift through the frame, often pausing to graze on the encrusted hard structure.
  • Corals And Sponges: The colonised surfaces host corals, sponges and algae that shift in colour and coverage across the seasons.
  • Changing Water Clarity: Visibility swings with tides, storms and port activity, so some days are crystal clear and others turn moody and green.

Beyond the Reef: Above the surface sits PortMiami, one of the busiest cruise and cargo ports anywhere, with Downtown Miami and Biscayne Bay just beyond. Miami Beach, the causeways and the bay's shallow flats are all within sight of this stretch of shoreline, making it a rare meeting point of heavy industry and tropical marine life.

Thanks to Coral Morphologic and the Coral City Foundation for maintaining this camera as a non-profit art and citizen science project. Keeping an underwater feed running in a working port takes constant effort, and sharing it freely lets anyone anywhere drop in on Miami's urban reef.

Tune in whenever you want a quiet moment underwater, and see which fish are working the reef at the edge of one of America's busiest ports.
